A challenge project

So we've all been there. We have so many projects and sometimes we need to start one that just challenges us.  One challenge
 project to truly be proud of.   Bragging rights if you may!  And I found that project i needed.  From vogue knitting spring\summer 2017.  The lace hoody!  How could I not want a lace hoody.  And to top it off in using yarn i bought from Michaels!   Say wah!!!! Yes!  I found this yarn on clearance  it's loops and threads woolike.  The color is in cool grey.  I can not wait to see how this turns out.  share with us you challenge project.  The last one I worked on was a wedding dress pattern that I knit to get me through my divorce,  I entered it in the state fair and won a second place ribbon.  Would of won first if I would of blocked it.  Seriously though blocking?.... That's for another post.

Fall is coming!

its hard to imagine but with kids going back to school and the weather starting to get cool we must admit that yes fall is coming!   So what fall projects are you excited to start it finish?   I just found this amazing blanket scarf pattern on Pinterest.   And guess what!?!?   It's free on Craftsy!   I ordered up the yarn on Amazon and casted on right away!   I can not wait to wrap up in this around the bonfire and while picking out our Halloween pumpkins.  Yes I said the word......   Halloween!!!  It's coming it's a couple months away!   Have you started planning your costumes yet??

Its a sock, Its a shawl, No its... I don't know what it is.

Okay.  When I worked for StevenBe years ago it was almost impossible to go home with a paycheck. Anyone who has ever been to his shop knows you will always find a yarn that calls to you!  Ah the impulse buy.  My last visit did not disappoint.   However I have not a clue what to make with this delicious ball of sparkly color!  Oh and how could I not find the softest of mohair to match! Best of all.  The color way was the name of my childhood idol....  Wonder woman.  Now making a come back i am thrilled with all the patterns and now a colorway with interest!

However here is my dilemma.  I made the purchase with not a clue what to make with them.  How does one even decide with your impulse what the project should be?  I've cast on the Wonder woman skein 5 different times.  2 times were for socks and the other times were different shawls.  Nothing seemed like the right fit and i wanted to incorporate both of these lovelies.  So now it sits starting at me in my yarn bowl begging to be touched and knit into something spectacular. I know that i am not the only fiber artist that does this.  So any suggestions?

Where has the time gone!

Holy Moly!  I didn't even think this was still active!  A lot has happened since my last post and guess what?  I have not knit through my stash.  Not even Close! In fact i worked at a yarn shop for a year and a half and it grew!  I worked for the ever famous StevenBe!
So I'm going to start posting what I've made and been up to the last 4 years!

Ah Unemployment~

Well last tuesday I was let go of my job that I worked at for a year and a half as a kitchen and bath designer and also most of the sales that bought my yarn was granite sales.  They let me go because they changed the way that the company was going to be doing things and felt that i no longer fit with where the company was going.  Pout Pout.  I was actually close to leaving any way.  So far I am struggling to get my unemployment approved and I have had two interviews so far.  The first one went really well.  The only thing is that they would not be able to take me on for 4-6 weeks.  But the job is a perfect fit for me so i could wait for the opportunity.  The second interview today was for a commission only job and that scares me but the scheduling is really flexible.  I am hoping I get the first one and if I do that will give me plenty of time to knit.  So here is my knitting plan!  I have reorganized my stash and now I am going to go through my patterns and organize them.  I have been knitting I promise!!!  Also I have knit and finished a ton of projects and I want to get photos and post them on here and on ravelry.  Until next time!

After going though a divorce and taking some time to find myself I have struggled though my ups and down and now i really don't know where my life is going.  The only thing that is keeping me going is my knitting.  I worked for StevenBe for a year after getting divorced and now have accumulated an enormous stash that is getting out of control.  But i am going to get back on the needles and knit away. I am going to be sharing with you my projects and my struggles.  And I hope I can again knit through my stash without buying any more.

Knit-out 2010 Mall of America

Okay a big what the heck.  I have only been knitting for 3 years but in those three years I was able to partake in the Knit out at the mall of america twice.  I have been teaching some friends how to knit and making new friends who knit and that is all that I talk about.  After getting 6 of my newly knitting friends pumped up about the event I find out that it is not happening this year.  Every other craft has a big event why do we loose ours.  I know that the turn outs have been a success so its not like the interest isn't there.  I would even bet that attendee's would pay for the event.  I know that the mall isn't the best venue and it was very spread out but for it to only run for 4 years.  Totally not fair.  If i was organized enough I would figure out how to set up a knit-out but i know it would involve a-lot of people.  But I am just so bummed out.  And its not like I need or want anymore yarn but it was so inspiring to see all the people who love the craft and all the different ages.  Oh and the fashion show.  I even got to get up on stage and show off a few things that I made.  Well we just have to hope that enough people will complain and they will bring it back.  Maybe we can get the Glitter Knitter to get something together.  I was just thinking of my best memory and it was the knit out 2 years ago.  I had just started knitting while pregnant and all i could do was sit in my bed knit and watch tv.  At that time there were 3 knitting shows on.  I soon became an avid watcher of Knitty Gritty.  At the knit out I got to meet Vicki Howell.  I was almost star struck.  I felt like such a little school girl but it was so cool.  But come to think about it we have lost our knitting shows and now the knit out.  What's next?  Lambs pride?  UHG.  well i think i have vented enough.   

Meaning of the kerchief

Many women who knit start a project to help them get through something that they are experiencing.  I knew that my recent pregnancy was not going to end happily.  I went to the emergency room expecting to get answers to why my pregnancy hormones were not rising properly.  I took with me my needles and some yarn and decided to start a kerchief.  A quick enough project to keep my mind off waiting for answers.  I started the kerchief in the ER.  I was half done by the time we got any answers.  The results were possibly an eptopic pregnancy, or a standard miscarriage.  Reguardless there was no way that this would develope to a full term pregnancy.  We decided to treat it as an ectopic and seek treatment for it.  I worked on the kerchief whenever i started to feel sad about my pregnancy.  I had my appointment today to see if the treatment was a success.  I have started to miscarry today and i finished up my kerchief except for weaving in the loose ends.  I feel that finishing the kercheif has helped in my ability to accept my loss.  I was pregnant but there was never a formation of a baby.  It has been hard on me but it has also made me appreciate my almost 3 year old even more.  I had a miscarriage before him and am thankful that Joseph is a happy, healthy and lovable child.  I feel someone has been watching over me even with the losses to make sure I have healthy children.  We will try again and hope we will be blessed with another healthy child.  But until we can try again I have my knitting to comfort the sad times and a crazy almost 3 year old to make me laugh when i cry.  

Working on a new purse

Well my kercheif is not complete yet but i am working on a purse that is knitting up really fast. I will probably make a few of them and sell them on my etsy page.  The bag I am working on is from the newest Interweaves magazine winter 2009. Page 72 The art lace bag.  It is kniting increadably fast and i think i could whip up  couple in a week.   I will post the link when I put it on my etsy page.  will post more later.

Finishing up kerchief

I am on the last side of my kerchief.  Should get it finished by tonight before knit-lit.  Figuring out what I could make that would knit up fast and could sell on my etsy page.  I might start from the beginning of one of my "one skein wonders" books and knit everything.  that would surely use up my stash in a hurry.  So I am announcing a contest/giveaway.  I am looking to get 50 followers within a month.  Refer people to my blog, watch my blog, and cheer me on to keep going.  Three of my lucky readers will receive something handknit from me.  Could be a bag, wristwarmers, or a scarf.  All you have to do is help me get 50 readers by the 15th of February.  Winners will be messaged by the 16th of February.  Happy knitting.  I will be updating my yarn total by the end of the week.  I think I am doing quite well.  Just need to keep motivated.

I am still around.

I applogize for not being around and updating for a while.  Life has been hectek but i have been knitting.  I am still working on finishing some of the christmas gifts that i didn't get done.  Still working on my dad's vest.  I just need to finish the collar.  Will be doing a count soon on how many balls of yarn i have left.  I feel like I have made a pretty big dent in it.  For recent news I just recently suffered an ectopic pregnancy.  Spent 10 hours in the emergency room.  Frustrating but we will get through it.  I am going to make a few changes to the site.  As I am knitting I will be reviewing the patterns or the books that I am using and the yarn.  That way I can look back and have references.  As soon as i get the christmas gifts done i will start up the pattern reviews and blogging everyday.  I might start now though.  Just to keep my mind clear.  Right now i am knitting for myself out of "Hattitude" book "Peaceful"  It is a cable edge kercheif.  I am using Lorna's laces shepherd sock yarn in brick.  It is knitting up great.  It will have alot of stretch to it but the stitches look great and the yarn will not fray or pill.  The only complaint i have of the pattern is in the directions for the edging in row seven it says.  Row 7: purl. Bind off all sts loosely knitwise.  not sure what to do.  Very confusing so i just went with my gut and bound off knitwise assuming that it just meant to work it on a purl row.  This is my project to help me get my mind off of my loss and i will probably be wearing it before I even know if the pregnancy has ended or not.  Happy knitting and see you tomorrow.  Tomorrow I will be announcing a special giveaway.

Late but almost up to date with everything I have been working on.

 

Okay I know that I haven’t been keeping up with the blog but i have been getting a lot of knitting done.  I think i am close to getting caught up on what i have been working on.  These pictures are everything that i worked on within the first month.

This is the wrist warmer that I started and completed within 2 weeks.  And yes i did get the 2nd one done also.  Only to find out that I can’t wear them for very long because they really itch.

In this photo,  The Revena Satchel (as of now it is felted and wip for the needle felting) Winter wonderland coat (the red color-  7”’s to go for the back piece.  Been working on this religiously)  The orange piece is a chest piece for a dress.  The blue is my dad’s vest.

Some are repeats the big blue ball is a circular shawl from knitty, shipwreck shawl, Short sleeve shirt knit in wool and mohair. 

 

Beer cozies in the green, the mess of balls in the middle are to be felted for a bracelet, a hat for Joe,  Treasure of a pocket purse  so far still working on the Mexican lace piece but i do have the beads picked out for the finishing work,  a bag still need to do piece two and felt.

the needle bowl was fun it is felted and made using 12 different kinds of wool.  That was a big stash buster well at least for the scraps.  The little blue bowl knit up fast and i keep my stitch markers in it and knitting notions.

These are all items i have had going for some time, 1 slipper still need to do the other one but i forgot what part of the pattern i was on, a stripy bag need to knit edging, the green stripy thing is going to be a felted 6 pack holder, a dice bag, wrist warmer, and Kleenex cozy i just need to put a button on it. 

Shawl in the brown and yellow, red and grey is one side of a coin purse, still going on the circle blanket got to an annoying part so i got board of it.

Well that is i so far it seems like i have done a lot but i just haven’t finished that much.  I am really good at starting projects just not finishing them.  Maybe i should change it up to at least casting on every ball of yarn.  I could get that done in a month.  But i will just keep plugging away.  I do have new stuff i want to share i just need to make more progress before i want to show off.  So until next time.  Happy knitting.

One finished and one major project!

Okay so this is one of my major projects that i will be working on predomenently. This jacket I entend to have done to wear for christmas. the peice i have done is the side gore. 1/25 done.












These are a pair of felted baby slippers that i made for Niko Kosin. So cute!

okay so i am starting early but i really do have alot of yarn to knit through. So here are the things i am working on today.


This will turn into a set of wrist warmers. this
is my first attempt at faire isle. It is going good
so far. and best of all i am using 5 colors of yarn
for this project.

This is a scarf that i made and think could get 2 more out of the ball of yarn. it doubles as a scarf for around the neck or over your head.

This is a mystery pattern that i am working on. If i finish it it will be the first set of socks other than joes that i will have finished.

This is the yarn i used for the scarf. It is really soft. If i make 3 i will be keeping one for myself.

The intro to the challenge!

Okay here is my background, my goal, my rules, and my stash. I have been knitting for about 2 1/2 years. I have completed a lot of projects most of which need alot of yarn. with in these few years i have realized that my stash is growing more frequently than my completed projects list is. So that is why i am starting this blog for the next two years. No this isn’t something my husband demanded this is something i want to do for myself. I plan to knit something from every ball of yarn i own within the next two years. Now i know you must think that my stash shouldn’t be that bad after only 2 1/2 years but i just counted it all and took pictures. In all that are not currently part of a project or prepackaged project i have a total of 329 balls, skeins, hanks and what ever else you want to call yarn. Besides that i have 23 projects in progress right now. So i think i can accomplish this but i will need motivation. Two years is a long time. Oh yah and a rule i made. I am not allowed to add to my stash until it is gone.

So here is my goal

Starting the knit off September 1st 2009 and ending September 1st 2011.

I am not allowed to buy any yarn. Unless i only need one ball to complete a project. but no new yarn.

I must use at least 3/4 of the ball or hand or skein to have it concidered being used. I am entitled to scraps and these do not count in the stash count.

Sounds pretty simple. Now i just need to figure out my game plan. And the patterns i want to make. That shouldn’t be a problem since i have over 400 faved on ravelry.

I will update my blog almost everyday and post pics of the completion for the day. First up for pics is of course the full stash.

So until the first i will be researching patterns and finishing up some wip. Look for me on ravelry or facebook. I visit those sites everyday.

Day 1

 

Well i have really set up a large task in front of me.  Before this really gets set in motion i need to evaluate how much yarn i have, sort the yarn and pick projects to start with.  i will post pics of my stash soon.  I can’t wait to get underway.  so here is the process that i will undertake.  I will post the picture of the yarn,  the project i have in mind and any details of the yarn that i may want to remember.  And then the final picture.  Keep in mind i may have many started at once.  but that is part of the fun.  Think of me and keep me motivated.

Am I a big football fan?

The answer is not really. I used to like it when i worked sundays at a bar and i would have money on the game and i would get good tips the more my customers would drink. But I would have to say that I am really not a big sports person. I will watch it if people around me are but just not a fan.

Our Beer Fest was a hit!!!!!!!

We had a wonderful turnout for our 1st annual Beer fest. We had about 30 people, 295 beers and 65 different Kinds of beer. All of the food was a hit also. We had beer brats, kielbasa and a ton of sauerkraut and german chocolate cake. The sign was made for us from a beer rep.

What is your favorite thing about Autumn.

There are so many thing where do i start.
I love the colors the rich reds and oranges. I love being able to wear big comfy sweatshirts all the time. And being able to wear legwarmers for a porpose other than style. I love going to the apple orchards the smell is amazing and of course halloween. That is my favorite holiday of all time. What other holiday can you get away with wearing rediculous costumes out in public. When i was pregnant and had a little prego belly i dressed up like britney speers. That was the only time i felt comfortable with my belly hanging out. LOL other times it just couldn't of been prevented. But i love everything about autumn. And it will be really fun when i my son will learn about leave piles.
